Wallpaper Removal

We started taking down the wallpaper in our house yesterday. We got a quote on what it will cost to texture the walls once we are done and we thought the quote was fair so we have embarked on our latest project.

I took lots of “before” pictures that I will be posting soon. We actually got pretty lucky so far cause the first bedroom came down in under an hour.

Our plan is to do about a 1/3 of the house this time and then another 1/3 in a month or two. That way we can still keep our house livable.

Grand Opening in Steele

On Saturday, I spent part of the day out in Steele for the grand opening of my dad’s new business. I also put up a quick website at http://www.rbmfgandsales.com if you are interested in what he is selling.

It was a good time with a pretty good turnout I thought, considering that Saturday was opening day for pheasant hunting season.

It’s not mine, I swear!

I’ve been getting some questions as to the Bus pictured above in the header.

No it’s not mine.

It was parked at Walmart about a month ago and was too funny not to photograph, and somehow it made its way to my blog. Hopefully I’ll find a new image to replace it soon.

Or maybe not…

On another note, we won our opening game of league darts last night!

Zoho, the Next Big Thing

zvo.gif

I’ve been watching Zoho for a few months now after I found out about their Creator product which allows you to create online applications in minutes.

About a week ago they announced their Virtual Office suite which packages email, links, tasks, documents, calendar, and group collaboration and document sharing into one suite. It works with your existing email account and it worked fine with my Gmail account, my work’s exchange server (via IMAP) and my own Linux mail server.

It is available as a hosted or on-premise version and can be installed on either Linux or Windows as the backend server.

I have tested both platforms and it installed easily on Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux without any problems.

The document storage is awesome and I was able to upload a 45 MB file across the internet without any problems. (broadband connection both ways)

It defaults to port 8080 on your server for serving the application as an interactive webpage (AJAX complete of course). The port can be configured/changed at your will.

I have not seen this kind of integration in any product to date, and the pricing is outstanding (free for up to 10 users and very reasonable after that).

I have been using Zoho Virtual Office now for about 4 days and I think it will pass the 10 day software test that gets something into my daily habit for good. It has really helped organize my day-to-day activities and I can’t see how I lived without it before.

Thanks Zoho for another great product!

Coding again

After a break from heavy coding for most of the summer (new job at work that doesn’t require programming) and taking a break from any summer coding projects of my own, for the most part, I am back to the grind.

It was kinda fun actually. Funny how quickly you can become absorbed into a project you last looked at months ago.

Anyway, I got darts tonight in Driscoll so I won’t get back to coding until tomorrow…

Google releases Google Docs

Google combined Google Spreadsheets with recently acquired Writely last night into one application with some major Google re-styling.

http://docs.google.com/

At first I didn’t like, but it looks like they put in some new features for file exporting and such.

See I still care about Google even though I didn’t comment on the recent YouTube acquisition, since everyone else did.

Go check it out.

Crazy Busy

Been crazy busy this week. Updating some software for my business, sending billing for the month, got darts on Thursday, poker on Monday, trying to get some website stuff done for my dad’s open house for his new business, and I got a math test due by Friday night.

Wow.

I am not alone
