This is going to be one busy weekend again. I really just want to get out and go camping a few times before the end of the summer…
On Friday night we have a wedding rehearsal for Sara and Brenden and then on Saturday is their big day. So we will be running around all weekend because both Tandra and I are in the wedding party…
Congrats to Jason for making it through his couple of days as a teacher. Do you miss the coding yet? We’ll have to catch up at the wedding this weekend on your first week in Nap-Town.
Just got back from Kohls. I was looking for some dress pants for a wedding I’m in on Saturday.
After an hour and a half I ended up with 3 pairs. Two of which may be too short but that is the game we play. When I find the guy with a 30 inch waist and 32 inch inseam I’m going to kick his ass all the way across the mall.
Why is it that there is 400 pairs of pants for people with a 30-32 pant size or vice versa but when you need at least a 34 inch inseam (actually 36 is ideal, but get real) you can only get that kind of length with a 29 or 30 inch waist, any bigger waist and the longest you can get is 30 inch inseam.
I think clothing manufactures stereotype the short-fat-guy bit a little too far. What about the rest of us? Hello Dockers there are some people that need a 36 inch length that have a waist bigger than 29 inches.
The other day Woot had a voice recorder for like $25.
I ordered one.
Actually it was a MP3 player / voice recorder and I thought it would be cool to have. Not really for the MP3 playback capability but for the voice recorder part. I have been watching this podcasting trend (the idea of taping yourself and posting the MP3 or WAV file instead of blogging) and thought it would be neat to try out but the only time I really have to record my thoughts is on my commute to and from work.
I figured this would be the perfect little device to try out my plan without breaking my budget.
Well I logged in to Woot today to check the status and it is gone from my profile page. Apparently I had ordered it and I never did get a confirmation page but it said it would keep trying due to overloaded requests or something but they must have sold out before mine was processed. I was never charged for it but I am still kinda bummed I didn’t get one…
Lately I have been getting questioned as to why I don’t have more technical posts since I am a technical kinda guy. I have always steered away from doing tech pieces because I felt there were plenty of programmers doing just that.
Then they usually reply back, “Well maybe you could do something more on a beginner level.”
Well, maybe I could. I just may start posting some overview type stuff in the future. Not so much beginner stuff but maybe tips and tricks type things for increasing productivity. I still don’t want to go completely to that type of content. I guess I will try to find a good mix that works for me and my readers. I have noticed that the amount of traffic this site is getting is growing and I want to appeal to all readers so I guess I have to round out my content a little more.
I think this should work out because I really enjoy blogging and as you may have noticed the frequency has picked up a little around here. This is mostly because I am starting to identify things in my life that I enjoy and those things that I don’t enjoy so much and have started to do more of those I do and less of those I don’t, which has started to free up some of my time. Not a lot yet, but some. I still have a bunch of lingering projects but my goal is to have all that kinda stuff wrapped up by the end of the year so that I can do more of the things I enjoy, whether they make me money or not.
Now don’t read into this that I am quitting my side business, because I am not. I am just re-aligning the type of work that I will take on. I am starting to get out of the web design and development and focus on hosting and consultation. It just turns out that the hosting and consulting take up much less of my time and bring in the majority of my income. The design and development areas just tie up too much time and end up being un-profitable in the long run.
Please also don’t worry if you are one of my current clients and are reading this. I do not plan on dropping anyone or anything like that. I plan on continuing to offer those services to current clients, just not taking on any new ones. New projects for existing clients maybe, new clients of the design and development nature, probably not.
It has just come to the point in my business that I either have to hire developers and designers full time or re-align my focus. I have chosen the latter based on the amount of profitable work that I get in these areas. The hosting and consultation just makes for a better gig as it is less time consuming and creates recurring income.
The Tesla concert last night at Prairie Knights was great. I’m not a big Tesla fan but they put on a hell of a show. This was the first time I had been to a concert in the casino pavilion and I have to admit it was a little smaller than I imagined but the sound was great.
To see more pictures visit my Flickr Tesla set.
We are heading down to Prairie Knights casino in a couple hours for the Tesla concert and then out to Driscoll for Uncle Jesse’s birthday. Should be a fun night and I’ll try to take a bunch of pictures…
Everyone is always asking to see pictures of our bar downstairs and the newly re-done pool in our backyard, so here you go:
Today at lunch I got attacked by a door to door Kirby vacuum cleaner man. He kinda stole my whole lunch hour although I was impressed with the demo just not the price. I mean you can afford a $1900 vacuum? I don’t care if it has a lifetime warranty. Who wants the same old-looking vacuum for 50 years?
I do admit though, the thing was pretty high tech. It had its own transmission and everything. It really was a breeze to push and use. Maybe I’ll just get a Roomba and let it go 24 hours a day. Do you think that will work as good? Prolly not as witnessed by his demo. He vacuumed my carpet with 104 passes on one spot with my vacuum and then went over once with the Kirby and the results were disgusting and we have a Riccar which is supposed to be the cat’s meow…
Update: Here is a picture of the stuff it picked up off the floor:
Maryam is looking the best way to view RSS feeds on the Mac.
My opinion? Use Newsgator online edition. I have been using that to cure my urge on Linux and it has taken over all my computers because since it is web based, it is always in sync on all my machines.
